What is with the time window?

I think I mentioned before that I moved..... : ) And now, I am having the locks changed. When I called to set up the appointment with the locksmith (of course, the only one my building does business with), he was very nice and we set a day. Then he proceeds to tell me that I have a 9 AM to 5 PM window. At first, I wasn't paying great attention so I didn't notice, and then suddenly I was like, what did he just say? So I asked him to say it again. Sure enough, he was telling me (with a straight face, I am assuming) that the technician would be here ANY TIME in that time frame. I was like, "are you serious"? and he was like, "oh, he'll give you a call when he's like twenty minutes away". Like that was the silver key of consolation that would make the entire scenario make sense. Oh, he'll give me twenty minutes huh? How helpful and accomodating of him. So, I was like, "Let me get this straight, you expect me to stay within 20 minutes of my house for the ENTIRE business day of Tuesday?" and the guy seemed a little surprised that it was a problem. Granted, I am currently unemployed, but how do fully functioning members of society who have a 9-5 manage to get anything done around here? I mean, I am almost lucky I haven't found a job yet because that means I can actually take care of crap like this. And SO many people do this bull sh*t time frame stuff. I don't understand. I get that some appointments may take longer than others, so find out what you are going to be doing and plan accordingly. In this day and age with all of the scheduling software and technology, there should be no time frame. In fact, we should be moving in the other direction. Someone should be able to say, "we will have a technician at your house at 9:12 AM Tuesday morning. There should be some high tech scheduling going on. Instead, it seems to be worsening. At the rate we're going, the next time you need a plumber they're going to say, "It could be anytime in the month of May. We'll let you know when we're on our way."

Moving Sucks.

I am sitting here at my computer, surrounded by half empty boxes, miraculously on the internet because mine hasn't transferred yet. I have spent all weekend either preparing to move, moving, or unpacking. Everything about moving is unpleasant. The packing was o.k. at first, because it is kind of therapeutic. You go through your old stuff, find things you haven't seen in forever, and my favorite- let go of the things of the past. You get to a point where you realize that bottle cap from high school that belonged to your first boyfriend's beer one night just really doesn't carry it's weight anymore. And why in the hell have I schlepped crap like that around with me for the last 10 years? Literal baggage. I can barely remember what that kid looked like, yet somehow up until now, junk like that seemed worth lugging around with me. Besides the fact, he was a total moron. My mother can probably attest to that, and gladly : )
So anyway, needless to say, I made a few trips to the dumpster. But after a while, you just get so sick of seeing stuff around you that has managed to evade a box somehow.
Then you move onto the actual "moving" phase, where your stuff is paraded in public for the whole world to see. By the time you actually get the boxes and furniture into the apartment, you are tired enough as it is. Then, the unpacking phase begins. At first this seems fun too-everything has a new place to reside. You get to re-organize your life. Then you run out of drawers and you still have like TEN fricken boxes that are still fool of junk that you wish you had just thrown away so you don't have to find a place to put it. The house goes from feeling organized to cluttered again, and you are so sick of looking at your own belongings that you want to go stay in a hotel to get away from your own stuff. That is kind of how I am feeling right now. The worst part is that all those boxes you tracked down so you could save money are now yours and you have to lug them back out of your life.
But it is evened out by the new apartment. This place I have moved into feels like home, and it's a good thing because I don't think I will ever move again. Just getting off the couch leaves me at a 45 degree angle like a shriveled old lady. I definitely didn't lift with my legs.
On a side note, poor Isabelle is so confused. I feel badly that I can't explain where we are...every time I go to leave she follows me to the door like she's terrified to be alone, and she's ready to go home to the old apartment. I know she'll get used to it, but it's still sad.... or she may just be upset that it's all hardwood, and she will have to figure out a new way to torture me.

Pay Back

My dog Isabelle and I have been fighting lately. I think a lot of it has to do with the weather, because when it is cold outside, she can't go out. The problem lies in that I know she doesn't want to go out, but she doesn't know this. If I tried to take her out in the snow she would take three steps and stop dead in her tracks because her little princess feet would be too cold. If there is a slight breeze, she can't move forward because obviously something she can't see is touching her, and it is too weird to move. If it is wet she can't walk in the water because it's just too icky. So, she looks out the window and thinks that she wants to go out, but I know better. So who gets the brunt of her pent up frustrations? me. Numero uno. See, Isabelle is a very vindictive little dog. Sure, she looks all little and harmless, but inside that little 10lb frame is a huge, devising brain that seeks to destroy me. I love her- don't get me wrong. But even when we are getting along, I'll tell you she was put on this Earth to teach me a lesson. That lesson would be patience.
When Isabelle is frustrated and taking it out on me, she may shred a tissue into a thousand little pieces on the floor. No big deal. Then she'll drink a bunch of water, jump on the couch, and spit it up all over my blanket. Still, not pleasant, but could be worse. Then she'll start peeing on the carpet just outside the bathroom door where her litter box is...just a couple centimeters from the linoleum. This is where the real "big f-you's" begin. Then, she'll go into her box, take a piece of poop and crumble it all over the carpet right by the pee. Maybe she'll smear it on the bathroom floor while she's at it- just depends on how much time she has. Then she'll pee again (this dog has an endless supply), but this time she will pee on the linoleum directly in front of her box. And as a grand finale to the day, she will vomit in the middle of the night on my clean duvet cover. She should have her own soundtrack.
So you can see how it would be tempting to sell her to the circus, or give her to the homeless guy on the corner, or even just set her outside my door and let some unsuspecting fool find her and fall for that charm that she has. But I can't do that. Because this dog is meant to torture ME until the day she dies. It is her destiny.
Therefore, my only payback is to annoy her. I know she can't understand me when I am yelling at her, and even if she could, she really wouldn't care. So today I was packing up her cabinet of stuff we've accumulated, and I decided to play a little dress up and see how many hats she could wear at once.

Oh, the joy. However, I need to savor this moment because I think I may have just pissed her off more.

By The Way...

Isn't my mother the cutest? Look at her all dressed up like a Peruvian "floating island" native...

Sorry It Took So Long

I present the long awaited picture...

In other news, I went to the democratic caucus last night (for the first time), and I have some comments. First of all, I was amazed at how many people were there. The speaker said that there were about 3 people who showed up for the caucus 4 years ago from our precinct, and there were probably over 200 people there last night. I think that is a pretty cool phenomenon, and it sounds like it is happening all over the U.S. The democrats are preparing for the revolution.

On the other hand, I was disappointed to see very few people there who were my age. It could be that I am registered in my Mom's neighborhood, and therefore the demographic is different. It's hard to know.
Anyway, I was hoping to hear from representatives of both candidates and get a little clearer view of the differences, because I think that they are both excellent candidates. This didn't happen. In fact, there wasn't even a functional microphone to be had. Pena and Degette both said some interesting things about the candidates, but nothing that helped me make up my mind.
Then, we went to the vote, which became even more ridiculous. How is it that people think "counting off" is an effective way of measuring votes? they did a head count, and then counted off. I just think that you can't get any more archaic than a count off, especially with 100 people...Lets talk about not time effective. By the end of it, I was thinking we should have been etching hash marks into a block of stone.
Overall, it was not as educational as I was hoping, and it kind of made me doubt our system even more (if that was possible). But, I cheer myself up by thinking about all those democrats crawling out of the woodwork.
Plus, there were free cookies, so that was good.
